In Loving Memory
Bluebill Retrievers lost their Monarch on Wednesday August 15th. Thunder was our big male Yellow Labrador. Some people said Thunder missed his calling he should’ve had a career in The Show Ring. Thunder came from Show stock. I have to disagree and have to say from watching him perform every hunting season with me that he did what he was supposed to do, fetch up birds, especially geese. I’ve hunted waterfowl for 34 years and have seen many waterfowl dogs perform, all different breeds and have to say I’ve never seen a dog perform his duties fetching up geese like Thunder did. He was awesome at what he did from doves to geese. If there ever was a dog bred for goose hunting it was Thunder. He was fearless and in his prime he went 95 lbs. On a real long retrieve of a lively goose a dog has to re-grip a goose a couple of times on the way back to the blind, he was the only dog I ever seen flip a goose and catch it to re-grip it, a normal dog would lay it on the ground to do this. I’ve seen Thunder on a field hunt go out after a crippled goose and the goose would get airborne and would jump and knock him down on the ground either with his paw or body if he could. I have lots of stories about my Boy. When I called my hunting buddies and told them Thunder had passed on they all had a Thunder story. One of my hunting buddies gave Thunder the nickname of, “The Goose Mugger”. He made it look so effortless.
Thank you, Thunder for all the memories. You were awesome.
